OREWA NEEDS A NEW
SURF LIFESAVING
COMMUNITY HUB
TO HELP SAVE LIVES.

OSLSC Vision

  • A new Surf Life Saving Community Hub will uniquely position the Club to lead the community forward, improve water safety, connect people, and develop our youth.
  • Together, in partnership with our lifeguards we will ensure Orewa and Wenderholm beaches are as safe as possible.
  • With a renewed focus on supporting members we will forge stronger ties to the community.
  • We will build a facility that will give our youth the best opportunities to develop their potential.
  • And we will create welcoming spaces for all, establishing the Club as a premier venue within the community.

Safer Community

Our lifeguards patrol Orewa Beach, Wenderholm, and the wider Whangaparaoa Bay.

It is vital that our facilities support lifeguards’ activities to keep all beach users safe.

More than half our equipment is stored in shipping containers or left outside exposed to the elements and we have limited facility for training our lifeguards.

With insufficient storage for essential life saving equipment our ability to keep the community safe is being compromised.

Orewa Beach and Estuary is an accessible body of water that is perceived to be safe. Surrounding waterways and our beautiful beach are attracting an ever increasing number of visitors and inexperienced water goers.

Unfortunately under this luring playground are strong tidal rips and the wide area is becomming increaingly difficult to patrol.

Orewa SLSC needs a new surf life saving community hub to help our lifeguards to continue to save lives.

Stronger Community

As a vital and vibrant part of the Orewa community, the Club supports locals as well as visitors.

The Club is central to the coastal community and is actively involved in the delivery of wider community events, including the Orewa Santa Parade and the Orewa Beach Series. Through the use of the clubrooms, the Club also assists other community groups, schools, sporting groups and local
businesses.

To sustain this ability to encourage family involvement, to build connections with new community members; and to continue hosting high calibre sporting and public activities, a new and improved Surf Life Saving Community Hub is required.

Our Community’s Future

The Club actively promotes water safety, providing training in water skills for young children, teaching surf life saving skills to adolescents, and promoting fitness, teamwork, and respect for the ocean through surf sports to all youth. The goal of our youth leadership programmes is to develop today’s young people into leaders of tomorrow through mentorship, training, and service.

Our lifeguards also volunteer at beaches all around the Auckland Region and we also provide water safety at a wide range of community sporting events, such as Weetbix Triathlons, Ocean Swims, The Beach Series and other events.

An updated, larger and better designed facility is necessary to provide for the youth in the community and support their training and development, both now and in the future.

Community Connections

“We are an Australian family new to the Orewa community. Being part of the Orewa Life Saving Club helped us to build friendships and develop our life saving skills. A wonderful new club house would provide a great meeting place and a place for learning and training for all our future lifeguards.”
– Orewa family

“We moved to Silverdale in the last year and have joined Orewa Surf Life Saving Club as a family. It is important to me that my children are aware of the dangers of the water and to get experience and skills in the water. We have had so much fun with the club and have made some amazing friends too. I would recommend Surf Life Saving to anyone that lives near the water!”
